Our Plant waste up-cycled into plant food
Insect Frass is a completely natural product from the skin casings and droppings of Black Soldier Fly larvae. It has every nutritional component a plant needs for healthy and sustained growth – so works as a fantastic fertilizer and soil improver, perfect for any plant and ideal for organic growers. It also works as a biorepellant – deterring pests and fungal disease without the need for harsh chemicals.
Frass as Organic Fertiliser and Soil Improver
The active component of frass is chitin (14% of frass by weight), and is naturally rich in nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium – as the chitin and nutrients are bound in within the frass they are not washed away by rain.
Chitin also binds to nutrients essential for plant growth, making them accessible to the plant and stopping them being washed from the soil. These include soil nutrients as well as those present in frass, which include carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium (NPK : 3 2 5) and others including magnesium and zinc. British soils can experience deficiencies in zinc and magnesium, causing chlorosis and poor disease resistance, frass is an effective solution to these deficiencies.
Frass also both stimulates and fertilizes the microbiome of bacteria present in the soil. This results in unprecedented increases in carbon and nitrogen mineralization, locking carbon into the soil and increasing nutrient availability for crops.
